The Babys
1976 be still my beating heart. The British band The Babys release their debut album with their cool hair cuts, skinny ties and capezio shoes. Oh what heart crushing songs, how could any girl not fall in love with The Babys or more fittingly John Waite.
Thank goddess for Chrysalis Records, the label notorious for desktops of cocaine and a roster of the best rock bands in the 70’s!

Yep. How amazing were The Babys? Eight months after the debut my dad brought me home a promo of Broken Heart and “Isn’t It Time” soundtracked my delirious short lived crush on a visiting Kentucky girl at the summer pool. Twelve years old and yearning. Even at 61, I’ll watch the video for “Every Time I Think Of You” on Midnight Special so I can recall how badly I had it for Melanie Chartoff. Thank you, Babys. Thank you, Power Pop for lighting the way.

My still absolutely gorgeous friend Evita Corby did marry one. Guess which!
