What a magical night! Must’ve been incredible to be in the audience. Thanks for sharing, Lori. Love your rock memories. I still have the Mars Needs Guitars record I bought in 1985. 😍
This was SO GOOD to see Lori. At the risk of sounding like I'm being too much of a fanboy, Chris was responsible for at least 3 of my all-time favorites by The Flamin' Groovies, "Shake Some Action", "You Tire Me Down" and "I Can't Hide". The Hoodoo Gurus were ALWAYS so darn fun live. Saw them on the first USA tour in 1984 in Baton Rouge and then 3 more times and in New Orleans between 1986 and 1987 (once opening for The Bangles)
The 80’s gigs would have been awesome. I think you missed a letter on You Tore Me Down lol. Yes that is one of his all time gems as well as I’ll Cry Alone.
Yep…I saw I mis-spelled “Tore” after I posted my comment. That proves I'm not an AI Bot 😂. Those 1980s Hoodoo Gurus shows were so good! They LOVED coming to New Orleans during Mardi Gras time. Some legendary shows. If I had to list all my favorite songs by Chris, this note would be a lot longer 😊 💜
This one put a huge smile on face Lori, I love the Hoodoo Gurus and the YT clip of Chris doing "Slow Death" with them is fantastic! It's in their blood, right? Fortunately for me the Gurus seem to like Seattle and I've seen them twice in recent years, both great shows at the Neptune Theatre, one of my favorite smaller venues.
Did you see the Groovies takeover the Tractor Tavern in 2014? I was there it was nuts, way too small a venue and packed. We met Freddie from the Sonics that night, it was a blast.
Great post as usual. Huge Gurus fan here - and I went to Dig It Up - fantastic!
Chris performed at Dig It Up in 2013. What year did you go!
I live in Sydney
Awe lovely! I went there in 96 and I went to Norfolk Island (for the nearly dead and newly wed lol.) You live in Radio Birdman territory.
Yes indeed!
I think it was on twice? I went both years - it was fantastic
I wore out his Dig It Up tee it was so cool. Please click on the heart it helps my algorithms here...
I missed that one, sorry to say, I do love the Tractor!
Great venue to see cool bands, very intimate!
The Gurus/Groovies connection has been my guiding star for music for decades.
Plenty more coming soon!

Great story, great performance! 👏

Fantastic, Lori! I have fond memories of the Gurus from my youth :)
